How do you “catch” a cold?
Our culture has an almost childlike way of looking at disease. Just as the ancients looked skyward and believed the sun revolved around the earth, many people see their periodic head cold or flu as an “attack” by some unseen microbe.
But it’s merely business as usual. Our immune system (directed by our nervous system) successfully fends off countless germs and pathogens every second. But we’re not notified with each success of our immune system.
More helpful is to study the circumstances when our immune system is compromised and symptoms appear. What are we doing or thinking that weakens our immune system? (Yes, thoughts are common culprits!)

Headaches: Common But Not Normal
Did you know that there are many types of headaches?
Tension – Sufferers feel a constant ache in the head and neck areas.
Migraine – A vascular-type headache with sensitivity to sound and light.
Cluster – Usually lasts 30-60 minutes. Smoking and alcohol may worsen them.
Hormone – Frequent in women, these can be one-sided, throbbing headaches with sensitivity to light.
Rebound – Caused by high dosages of medications that contain caffeine producing a “rebound effect.”
We regularly see those who are suffering from headaches. There are many types of “triggers” that can bring them on. A commonly overlooked issue is a structural or functional compromise in the neck.
The fatigue caused from forward head carriage, in which the head juts out in front of the body, is a common cause. Common, but not normal. Thankfully, chiropractic is often helpful.
Your Body’s Cry For Change
If you have back pain or headaches or know someone who does, making the pain go away is a major goal. But what is the purpose of pain?
It turns out there are some good reasons why we’re equipped to sense pain. It causes us to pay attention, warning us that a limit has been reached. It’s how our body talks to us, alerting us that it can no longer adapt and we need to make a change.
Pain protects us. It’s only when we misinterpret the pain or suppress it without tending to its underlying cause that we get into trouble.

Dr. Bennett is a kind and gentle man with an expertise of human anatomy and physiology unparrelled to any other chiropractor. He has helped me immensely and the people I have sent to him have experienced being “pain-free†after they finished their treatment plan with him. Other treatments with drugs and injections are simply putting a “band aid†on the problem. Dr. Bennett works on the “cause†of the problem. It all makes sense.
